Halloween Brain-Shaped Jello Mold

This dish features a gelatin-based mold shaped like a brain, achieved by layering flavored Jello into a brain-like form. The gelatin mixture is poured into a silicone mold, chilled until set, resulting in a wobbly, translucent finish that resembles a real brain, perfect for Halloween displays.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water for dissolving gelatin
  • 3 oz gelatin powder unflavored, for setting the mold
  • 1 cup cold water to dissolve gelatin
  • 1 cup flavored Jello (e.g., lime or cherry) for creating the brain color and flavor
  • 1 cup hot water to dissolve flavored Jello

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Silicone brain-shaped mold
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Begin by boiling water in a saucepan, then pour it into a mixing bowl.
    2 cups boiling water
  2. Add gelatin powder to the hot water and whisk vigorously until completely dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. The mixture should become clear and smooth.
    2 cups boiling water
  3. Pour cold water into a separate bowl, then gradually whisk it into the dissolved gelatin mixture. This helps it set at the right consistency.
    2 cups boiling water
  4. In another bowl, combine hot water and flavored Jello, stirring until the gelatin crystals are fully dissolved and the mixture is uniform in color.
    2 cups boiling water
  5. Pour the flavored Jello mixture into the silicone brain-shaped mold, filling it evenly without overflows.
    2 cups boiling water
  6. Transfer the filled mold to the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or until the gelatin is fully set and firm to the touch.
  7. Once set, gently remove the gelatin from the mold by turning it upside down and pressing along the edges to release the shape carefully.
  8. Place the brain-shaped Jello on a serving platter. If desired, cut into slices or leave whole for dramatic presentation.

Notes

For added realism, use food coloring to tint the Jello or decorate with edible blood or slime for extra spooky effect.
