Ingredients

  • 4 cups cola (soda) chilled
  • 1 teaspoon citrus zest orange or lemon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups ice cubes

Equipment

  • Grater or Zester
  • Blender

Method

  1. Using a grater or zester, carefully remove the citrus zest from your fruit, avoiding the bitter white pith, and set aside.
  2. Pour the chilled cola into a blender, then add the citrus zest and vanilla extract for added flavor complexity.
  3. Add ice cubes to the blender, stacking them on top of the liquid mixture.
  4. Blend the mixture on high speed for about 30-45 seconds until the ice is fully crushed and the mixture is slushy and smooth, with a frosty appearance.
  5. Stop the blender and check the consistency; it should be thick, bubbly, and with a uniform icy texture. If needed, blend a few seconds longer.
  6. Serve the Coke slushie immediately in chilled glasses or cups, garnished with additional citrus zest if desired for a burst of fresh aroma.

Notes

For an extra kick, top with a splash of sparkling water or add a slice of citrus as garnish.
